Background: The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 134th Field Artillery Regiment, Ohio National Guard on 10 February 1930. It was amended to change the design and blazon of the shield on 2 January 1934. It was redesignated for the 134th Field Artillery Battalion, Ohio National Guard on 23 November 1944. It was redesignated for the 174th Field Artillery Battalion, Ohio National Guard on 19 March 1951.
